Data execution prevention

Every time I run a system scan, AVG asks me if I want to turn on "Data Execution Prevention."  What is this feature, and how can I turn it off if I don't like it?

And, I have a follow-on problem for you.  After re-installing AVG, I am seeing a new error message when I launch the Thunderbird email app:
Non-overridable TLS error occurred.
Handshake error or probably the TLS version or certificate used by server imap.sonic.net is
incompatible.

I am suddenly unable to send or receive email using Thunderbird.  Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated.  I can assure you that this problem never occurred until I re-installed AVG today.

Ben

This isn't the experience we want you to have, Ben.
Since, it seems to be unusual, our colleague has suggested to reinstall AVG once to ensure that all the services are running fine.
Thank you in advance!

Okay, I'm sorry to keep submitting follow-up comments, but I think this will be of interest.  I am able to temporarily suppress the problem described in my previous post, by temporarily disabling the email shield in AVG.  With email shield disabled, I am able to send and receive new messages, and I don't get the TLS error described above.

Obviously, this is not an ideal solution, since it leaves me vulnerable to malware in email attachments.

Excellent explanation.  Thank you, Midhun!

Now that I know the details, I can probably live with things the way they are.  It appears that DEP is already on, and I am protected, so really I can just remind myself that this is just a nuisance message from AVG.  I'll try the uninstall and reinstall procedure when I have more time.

Thanks again.
Ben

All right, you shamed me into doing the re-install of AVG, which was fairly straightforward.  So far, I have not seen the nuisance warning again, but it will take a few days to be sure.  Thanks for your help.
