Marty, I'm afraid it's not available with AVG AntiVirus FREE. Also for info have a look @ the User Manual (http://download.avg.com/filedir/doc/AVG_Free/avg_free_uma_en_ltst_07.pdf).

AVG 2016 free edition fresh installed and latest definiton [u16iavi10977ae.bin] manually install. all Ok
But…
the "Definition Update Schedule: panel is locked.
Can only "Automatically". Toggled "Enable this task" to no effect
In future I would prefer to be notified of definition updates and choose to install at my own discretion or at my own sch
