Maybe I spoke too soon. At this point, I'm not really sure what worked, but I managed to clear them through the UI. Temporarily disabling the process that causes new scans throughout the day may have been a big factor. There was also an update overnight requiring a reboot to take effect. I guess we shall see what happens next time I forget for too long and things get out of hand.
Is it possible to initiate this report history clean-up via command line? Then I could schedule it to happen periodically and not have to worry about forgetting and having it become such a painful process.

I am using the 2016 Free edition.
I am having difficulty deleting a large scan history (currently over 10,000 entries). Basically, the UI never finishes loading the history so I can delete it. I have raised this question in the past. The answer was to delete the files in the (for my current install) "C:\ProgramData\Avg\AV\DB" folder. The first problem is that these files are locked and I can't delete them, presumably because the software has them open. This leads to the second problem which is that I can't stop the services. In the earlier 2016 version (Oct 2015), I got past this problem by disabling the services and rebooting. I could then delete the files, set the services back to automatic and restart them. But, now, I can no longer disable the services. The only options I know of (and have resorted to in the past) is to uninstall, delete the files, and reinstall. Can you suggest an alternative?
As I write this, I am currently trying to load the Scan Results Overview page, It has been working on it for at least 2 hours now and avgui.exe is now using over 6GB of RAM. Who knows, it might actually finish!
OK Marshall, No probs… Pleased to see that you appear to be now sorted. Thanks for returning to the Community & posting.
