that is all very good to say that the 2018 version automatically updates however, I still only use my PC and internet when I am home after 1-2 weeks away, therefore my Pc is only then switched on, during that time away there could be many updates that are required, they won't happen when the PC is off, so (1.) - when I turn my PC and internet on I am guessing that The AVG 2018 version would start an automatic update, (2.) Can I still run a Manual update with this version upon start up as I have always done. (3.) Because of the extended breaks between updates will this version be accepting of the delayed update es an irregular times they occur?? I just want to be clear on what I can expect from this new version.

I have tried to screen save, hope it worked. my latest antivirus was purchased 02/10/2016 for 2 years
so I am due to renew next month. I need to know that if I renew will the update allow me to do manual updates as I will not leave my PC and wireless router on 24/7 and particularly while I am working away.
It appears that my version is 2016 which is now unsupported.

I have just discovered my manual updates no longer work although it goes through the update and the pop up informs me my update was successful. It leaves a red fix icon and red in the computer icon of the dashboard advising me that antivirus needs protection. I do not leave my computer running 24/7 as I work away but always do a manual update on start up when Im home and whenever I use my PC. Am I unprotected now and how do I rectify this. Why didn't I receive an email if I am no longer supported?

You can keep our latest version of AVG Internet Security (2018) after the renewal and your computer will be protected from all types of malware. The AVG Internet Security (2018 version) will be updated (version/virus definition) automatically.

Ian, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. AVG release the virus definitions update at least once a day. There are times were AVG could release the updates twice or three times a day. Please be informed that the updates for old versions of AVG like (2016, 2015, 2014 etc) are no longer released.

Ian, AVG 2018 version will check for latest updates when it detects an internet connection on your device. So, you can be assured that AVG is up to date with latest virus definitions and protecs your PC while in use. Option for checking updates manually is also available (open AVG, click on Menu > Settings > Update and click 'Update') after the PC start up.
Regarding your 3rd question, AVG program always detects latest virus definitions and installs them. It does not start installing updates from the day that your PC was turned off.

You're using old AVG Internet Security, which is why you're experiencing issues it's virus definition updates.
In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Internet Security.
Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install/activate AVG Internet Security.
