"Dropbox Unexpectedly Quit" error on Windows 11 Notebook

Since upgrading to Windows 11 I have been getting this error. I thought it might be because the Dropbox installation was 32 bit and Windows 11 is 64 bit so I removed the app, reinstalled 64 bit and the app would not finish installing. I then allowed Dropbox as an app - manually (Blocked & Allowed Apps) - as AVG did not see it. Still would not install. I turned off the AVG shields and then it did. Today on re-starting the error came up again. I turned off the shields and reinstalled without removing and the app works again, with the shields back on?

  1. Open AVG → Menu → Settings → Basic Protection → Exceptions
  2. Click “Add Exception” and add the following paths:
    • C:\Program Files\Dropbox\

    • C:\Users\<YourUser>\AppData\Roaming\Dropbox\

  3. Also add dropbox.exe to the allowed list under Blocked & Allowed Apps.
  4. Restart your PC after saving the changes.
  5. If the issue persists, go to AVG → Menu → Settings → Troubleshooting → Enable debug logging, restart once more, and check if it still flags Dropbox. Then contact AVG support with the log — it’s a known compatibility issue since Windows 11’s last update.

I described it badly, but I had done that thanks. My poor description is now in italics, and I have added in brackets (Blocked & Allowed Apps) for clarification. I have not yet tried logging the fault.

I now have to turn off AVG, start Dropbox manually and then turn on AVG after every re-start.

At AVG online support suggestion I have uninstalled and re-installed AVG Security. The problem is still there. I have now had a chat online with an Agent (Amit - many thanks) and the issue has been escalated. I am waiting for a further response.

“Blocked & Allowed Apps” did not work. Menu → Settings → General → Exceptions → Add Exception C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox* did it. While there are obvious risks to adding exceptions like this, for the moment, this has solved the problem.
Thank you Thomas_Charle

Helpful fix to theVip Youcine suggests reinstalling Dropbox or updating Windows 11 to solve the issue.

Thank you. I had tried reinstalling Dropbox as noted and Windows 11 is always updated. The only solution which worked was adding the Exception.

After an online session with AVG Support the solution was applied.
