Hello Mario, I really apologize for the inconvenience caused. I kindly request you to temporarily disable your AVG program by following the instructions in the link http://avgread.me/1GnMD3N and then kindly let us know if you are able to successfully receive emails in 'Thunderbird'. Thank you.
Error description:
After clicking “retrieve“ in Thunderbird, the status line indicates that a connection to server 127.0.0.1 is being established. After some time, this message disappears, with no mail having been downloaded.
The server in AVG has been configured in the following way:
E-Mail-Scanner –> Server –> POP3 –> <server name> ,
Login-method: a certain computer (defined by pop.gmx.net, port 995),
Additional settings: local port (used by E-Mail-Client) 5300, connection: secure to the regular port.
Setting in the E-Mail-Client (Thunderbird ) are as follows:
Server type: POP
Server: 127.0.0.1, port: 5300
Connection security:
Authentication method: password sent unprotected, no encryption.
What is it that has changed in the latest versions of AVG? (This function worked at least until AVG AntiVirus FREE version 2015.0.6086 perectly.) I would be grateful if you could assist me with this issue.

Hello Mario, thank you for the information. So you mention that on both enabling and disabling AVG you get the same message. It is clear that AVG doesn't have any effect in receiving the emails. I strongly believe that it is an issue with your Thunderbird email settings. I would request you to contact the Thunderbird support to get assistance regarding this. Thank you.
For me it is clear that AVG has a significant effect in receiving the emails for two reasons:
- I never changed my Thunderbird-settings. Troubles in receiving emails arose with updating AVG after its version 2015.0.6086. (I have another computer with the same Thunderbird- and AVG-settings but with the old AVG version 2015.0.6086: there are no problems there.)
- I found in the AVG-Support-Community the same problem description, posted on August 7, 2015 by Nigel Rowe.
