Email moniter stops connection to inbound.att.net

Yesterday, 106/26, I was unable to connect to my email server, inbound.att.net via Thunderbird. AVG popped up message that certificate has been revoked. Looking at the certificate shows expiration of 10/28/26.

Turning off email monitor in AVG allows me to get my email.

A bug in AVG???

No. I had the same problem. Issue is with the email server accidentally

revoked the certificate. Is a known issue and they are working on it.

Forgot to mention that I am still able to get my email on my phone and via a browser because they use IMAP instead of POP3 and they use different certificates for IMAP.

The issue with AVG Email Monitor stopping the connection to inbound AT&T mail sounds frustrating, especially if it prevents messages from being received normally. It would be helpful to check the AVG version, email client, and current AT&T mail server settings to determine whether the problem is related to the security scan or the mail configuration.

I have had the same problem as well. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

Hi All,
We have identified reports from some AT&T email users who are unable to connect because a mail server involved in the connection is presenting a revoked certificate. AVG Email Shield checks the identity of mail servers before allowing email traffic. When a revoked certificate is detected, the connection is blocked because the server’s identity can no longer be verified.
This is expected behavior and not the result of a recent change in AVG. The issue must be resolved by the operator of the affected mail server, who needs to replace the revoked certificate.
While you can temporarily disable AVG Email Shield as a workaround, we do not recommend this from a security standpoint. Doing so disables email traffic scanning and server identity verification.
We recommend contacting your email provider and informing them that a revoked certificate is being presented by the affected mail server.

Ran into the exact same thing this week with my AT&T address — mail just stopped syncing and I spent way too long thinking it was my client acting up. Turned out to be the same revoked cert situation. Honestly it’s kind of reassuring the shield caught it instead of silently letting it through, but it’d be nice if the error said which server was failing instead of just dropping the connection. Guess I’ll be bugging my provider about it too.

At least AVG is catching the certificate issue instead of letting the connection through unchecked. AT&T needs to replace that certificate so everyone can get their email working again.
