Error codes csc.exe and cvtre.exe after update restart

Hello John,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Have you installed our latest 2016 version of free AVG antivirus program?
If yes, have you tried reinstalling your AVG program using our AVG remover tool once?

My OS is Windows 7 and I use AVG AntiVirus Free and have done for several years now.  I quite frequently receive a mesage from AVG advising me to restart my computer to complete an update, which I have always done without any problems.  However I have had the same problem twice in the last few days following a restart in response to the AVG message.  On both occasions I got a series of error messages, namely "csc.exe - The application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142)" and "cvtres.exe" followed by the same message. After clicking on OK to clear each of the messages, my system then freezes - I can't open any appliocations or even shut the system down normally.
The only way I've found of getting around the problem is to carryout a forced shut down, followed by a safe boot and then a system restore.  This resolves the problem, but only until the next AVG mesage and the next restart of course.  Can anyone advise why this problem has suddenly started to occur and how to fix it?
