Hello Francis,
This might be an fake update too.
Do you have the latest version of Firefox installed?
May I know the name of AVG program installed on your PC, is it free, trial or paid?
Also please uninstall the unwanted programs from your PC and the weird and unnecessary add-ons from your Firefox browser and check whether the issue persists.
When I am using the Firefox browser, this happens occasionally: A new tab opens (usually replacing one I have just closed) and displays in bright colors the message “Urgent Firefox Update” inviting me to click Download. I don't click on it, of course, but I'm wondering if it means there is a virus or trojan already lurking in my PC. I have Firefox version 50.1.0, running on Windows 10. My AVG program is "AVG Internet Security" (a paid version).
When you say "please uninstall the unwanted programs from your PC," what unwanted programs do you mean?
And how would I know what Firefox add-ons are "weird and unnecessary"?
