Free AVG Protection without ZEN

Hello Alan,
We understand your concern.
To get your issue fixed, we request you to run AVG remover tool and then install AVG Antivirus.
To run AVG remover tool follow the below steps :
Please click on the below link to download remover tool
http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
Accept the license agreement and then choose AVG Product and remove it.
NOTE: Once the AVG Remover Tool has done with its process. Please go to the drive where you installed this tool and look for a folder named as "AVG Remover" and I request you to delete it manually.

I have now for probably 15 years recommended AVG and through the free route seen many subscribe, but since AVG Zen I have been advising removal. I have now encountered 2 computers with the free version in it's disabled state following 'upgrade trials' with AVG Zen happily maintaining a healthy icon in the taskbar; on one further system AVG was removed somehow but Zen remained happily maintaining an OK state, thankfully microsoft security essentials had installed following the loss of the real AVG.

Perhaps AVG may reconsider it's position and provide an up to date free version without Zen and perhaps reconsider if Zen is actually doing the company any good in gaining customers; as for me there is now no free route I can recommend.

Hello

Does anybody know an AVG Free download link that works without you also getting AVG Zen - don't need it or want it, I just need the basic free AVG that works and one that also fixes performance without having to pay for it !
I had this previously on my laptop but a query via HP ended up with me loosing it (and other items) and now I cannot find the old one that I had - I seem to remember it was AVG 2016 ?
Any help would be appreciated.
