I have been using AVG Internet Security for many years as a paid subscriber with 5 licenses and maintain more than three remote Linux web servers with collectively hundreds of email accounts spread over hundreds of domain names. Thus, it is difficult to narrow the field regarding which email addresses are the offending email account sources. One client has an exclusive FedEx account and such email addresses are monitored for that domain name.
I am using Thunderbird which polls the server anywhere from once in 10 minutes to once per hour. The pop-up events occur at least once every hour, sometimes more frequently. I would like to use iptables at the server level to block the offending domain name/email account if only AVG Internet Security would provide me with these details.
There was an error downloading the following message:
From: "FedEx Ground" <clyde.oneill@aeternumjournal.com>
Subject: Unable to deliver your item, #00975743
This message may contain a virus or there is not enough disk space. Skip this message?
An AVG pop-up persistently appears every few minutes warning of a potential virus threat which I must provide an answer the question to "Protect Me" or "Ignore Threat". Then, I must "close" this AVG pop-up. Lastly, I must discharge another pop-up with the message typically containg the content:
"There was an error downloading the following message:
From: "FedEx Ground" <name@example.com>
Subject: Unable to deliver your item, #nnnnnnnn
This message may contain a virus or there is not enough disk space. Skip this message?"
I would like to block these messages at the server level and stop getting pummeled with AVG messages where my answers are always the same [i.e. "Protect Me"]. However, the AVG pop-up is absent enough information to affect a server level block and the content of the second pop-up is bogus. How to I end this three click cycle every five minutes?
There appears to be a misunderstanding of the genesis of the problem. AVG Internet Security is persistently reporting a message with a VIRUS and offering me the opportunity with a pop-up to Protect Me
which I elect, then click again to close the window. A second pop-up appears which I "x" out of and not click on either option which I suspect launches the virus. In summarly, three clicks per incident occurring more that once per hour. AVG does not report the email address -or- the IP sender of the message -or- the domain name of the sender -or- any other useful information to affect a server blockage of such messages. All mailboxes on my servers are operating with a 25% fill or less, and my desktop's hard disk has plenty of capacity. Thus, lack of storage is not the problem. All I am asking for is for AVG to report more of the offending header information -or- just have AVG block these virus and not keep bothering me with redundant pop-ups where my reponse is identical. Please help me out here. If your product is not up to the task, please let me knowand I will move on to another security service provider. Thanks.
Thank you for the detailed information.
Could you please provide the screenshot of the threat detected message so that we can assist you better?

Hello David,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
May I know the name of AVG program that you have installed and mention whether it is free, trial or paid version?
May I know when do you get this FedEx message? Is it when you browse on the internet or while checking your emails?
Do you have any account created on FedEx?
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation.
It is not possible for the AVG Internet security program to provide the IP addresses of the domain or server but it is possible to add or block specific IP addresses through AVG Firewall.
You have mentioned that one of the client has the exclusive FedEx account, the error message that you receive is as "There was an error downloading the following message: There is not enough disk space"
I guess that the client mail box would be full and the message from FedEx couldn't' be downloaded because of insufficient space. If you free up some space this message would get downloaded and you shouldn't be getting this thereafter.
