Hello Michael,
I see that you have a paid version of AVG PC TuneUp. Did you put Google chrome to Sleep from running in the background while tuning up? Please open AVG PC TuneUp, click on Speed Up component. Select "Background processes and applications", scroll down to see the list of programs which were set to Sleep mode. If you find Google Chrome in that list, please click on Wake and check if that helps.

Hi,  is it possible avg could be causing a problem with chrome
