How are virus definitions updated on AVG Free?

Hello Scott,

Yes, for the AVG Antivirus free version the updates are done automatically.
If you are using the 2017 version, please open the AVG Antivirus free dashboard and click on "Menu–>settings–>Update

For years, before running a full computer scan, I would update my virus definitions. 

Since the format has changed, are the definitions automatically updated before scanning? (since I don't see an option to update them manually)

Please advise!
