Method 1: Temporarily Disable from the AVG Interface
- Open AVG Antivirus:
- Double-click the AVG icon in the system tray (bottom-right of your screen), or open it via the Start menu.
- Access the Menu:
- Once the AVG interface is open, click on the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
- Go to Settings:
- From the dropdown, select Settings.
- Disable Antivirus Protection:
- In the Settings window, go to the General tab.
- Under the Temporarily disable AVG protection section, you’ll see an option to turn off various AVG components (like File Shield, Web Shield, etc.).
- You can choose the duration for how long you want the protection disabled. You can disable it for 10 minutes, 1 hour, until the next reboot, or until you manually turn it back on.
- Confirm Your Action:
- After selecting the appropriate time, confirm your action and AVG will disable the protection for that period.
Method 2: Completely Disable via Task Manager (For a more thorough shutdown)
- Open Task Manager:
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
orCtrl + Alt + Del
and select Task Manager.
- Find AVG Processes:
- In the Task Manager, look for any AVG-related processes under the Processes tab (these might include names like
avgsvc.exe
,avgui.exe
, etc.).
- End Task:
- Right-click on the AVG processes and choose End Task to close them.
- Disable AVG at Startup (Optional):
- Go to the Startup tab in Task Manager.
- Right-click on any AVG-related startup items and select Disable.
Method 3: Disable AVG from the System Tray
- Find the AVG Icon:
- In the bottom-right corner of your screen (system tray), locate the AVG icon.
- Right-click on the AVG Icon:
- Right-click the icon, and from the context menu, select Disable AVG Protection.
- Choose Duration:
- Select the desired duration (10 minutes, 1 hour, etc.).
Method 4: Uninstall AVG (If You Want to Completely Remove It)
If you want to fully uninstall AVG:
- Open Control Panel:
- Go to Control Panel (press
Win + R
, typecontrol
, and press Enter).
- Uninstall a Program:
- Click on Programs > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall AVG:
- Find AVG Antivirus in the list, click on it, and select Uninstall.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstallation.
Note: Uninstalling AVG completely will remove all AVG protection, so make sure you have an alternative antivirus solution installed if you decide to go this route.
