How do I completely disable AVG antivirus?

Method 1: Temporarily Disable from the AVG Interface

  1. Open AVG Antivirus:
  • Double-click the AVG icon in the system tray (bottom-right of your screen), or open it via the Start menu.
  1. Access the Menu:
  • Once the AVG interface is open, click on the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
  1. Go to Settings:
  • From the dropdown, select Settings.
  1. Disable Antivirus Protection:
  • In the Settings window, go to the General tab.
  • Under the Temporarily disable AVG protection section, you’ll see an option to turn off various AVG components (like File Shield, Web Shield, etc.).
  • You can choose the duration for how long you want the protection disabled. You can disable it for 10 minutes, 1 hour, until the next reboot, or until you manually turn it back on.
  1. Confirm Your Action:
  • After selecting the appropriate time, confirm your action and AVG will disable the protection for that period.

Method 2: Completely Disable via Task Manager (For a more thorough shutdown)

  1. Open Task Manager:
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task Manager.
  1. Find AVG Processes:
  • In the Task Manager, look for any AVG-related processes under the Processes tab (these might include names like avgsvc.exe, avgui.exe, etc.).
  1. End Task:
  • Right-click on the AVG processes and choose End Task to close them.
  1. Disable AVG at Startup (Optional):
  • Go to the Startup tab in Task Manager.
  • Right-click on any AVG-related startup items and select Disable.

Method 3: Disable AVG from the System Tray

  1. Find the AVG Icon:
  • In the bottom-right corner of your screen (system tray), locate the AVG icon.
  1. Right-click on the AVG Icon:
  • Right-click the icon, and from the context menu, select Disable AVG Protection.
  1. Choose Duration:
  • Select the desired duration (10 minutes, 1 hour, etc.).

Method 4: Uninstall AVG (If You Want to Completely Remove It)

If you want to fully uninstall AVG:

  1. Open Control Panel:
  • Go to Control Panel (press Win + R, type control, and press Enter).
  1. Uninstall a Program:
  • Click on Programs > Programs and Features.
  1. Uninstall AVG:
  • Find AVG Antivirus in the list, click on it, and select Uninstall.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstallation.

Note: Uninstalling AVG completely will remove all AVG protection, so make sure you have an alternative antivirus solution installed if you decide to go this route.
