How do I remove the last remnants of AVG Free after an uninstall?

Hello,

Hello,

Thanks for the offer of tech support. In the end I managed to sort it out myself. I had an ongoing problem with the PC in that it wouldn't shut down completely without pressing the power button. My guess is that in some way the AVG Remover needed a clean shutdown to do something at restart, and so it kept failing. Once I'd sorted out the shutdown (using the repair function on the Win Xp installer disc) I was able to run the remover tool again successfully.

Hello,

I've just tried to uninstall AVG Free. This followed some disc problems and a major cleanup, and I thought I'd try out some of the alternatives.

I've used the avgremover tool, manually deleted files, manually deleted registry entries, etc. but there's clearly some process still running that's trying to run services at startup (Win Xp SP3).

The program files are all gone, I made sure of that by booting with a Linux Live disc so that I could delete things like the Toolbar Updater. When I run the windows event viewer (eventvwr.msc) straight after startup, however, there are errors in the log as follows:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Description: The AVGIDSAgent service depends on the AVGIDSDriverl service which failed to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Description: The AVG Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Description: The AVG WatchDog service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7000
Description: The vToolbarUpdater18.9.0 service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

I've tried using WindowexeAllKiller, but the startup service entries just reappear (as do a load of registry entries).

How do I stop these services permanently, and remove every last trace of AVG from my PC?

Thanks,

Piers.
