How do you revert to standard editing on an AVG search?

Recently, editing an existing search argument does not work as expected. If you wish to insert/delete text to/from the argument, placing the cursor within the text and keying does not edit at the insert point. Instead, text is appended to the end of the search argument. In practice, if you wish to insert a word, you have to delete back to the desired insert point, make the change and then rekey everything afterwards.

This does not occur on plain Google, suggesting it is an AVG Secure Search issue. This has not always happened, suggesting that the issue was introduced during some update.
It affects IE, Firefox and Chrome.
