How to disable all background and start-up processes

Hi,

I have to second Max's issue with AVG. I am also a paying customer. However, I am getting to the point where I think getting rid of AVG may be a better option. Your Antivirus and other associated programs are so heavy with unstoppable background resources that it slows my work down terribly. This despite the fact I am using high-end hardware set up for Performance.  The fact is, AVG behaves like a virus!

Is it really your only solution to place AVG in Passive mode, which is more-or-less equivalent to having no Antivirus program at all, as a solution to this? This simply begs the question, why have your antivirus program at all?

Hello, Max

We will help you with this.
AVG shouldn't occupy all the RAM in your PC.
Unfortunately we do not have the option to disable the AVG TuneUp temporarily.
Check whether if you any other security applications installed in your PC.

Max, you can disable AVG TuneUp service but you have to manually start it when you would like to run the application again.

Simultaneously press the Win and R keys on your keyboard to run the Windows Services console, then type services.msc in the field and click OK. The Services console appears.
In the Services console, locate and right-click AVG TuneUp, then select Properties.
nsure the General tab is selected, click the Stop button to stop the service from running.
Follow the same path and click Start to start it again.

I've been using AVG for the past 7 years with few concerns, I've been able to tolerate its unquenchable thirst for operations for a while but I think I've just about had it after seeing it take up half a gig of ram with 8 or more processes and one of them is some kind of server?

Don't know what that is but with my computer aging I don't want jack-extra running in the background. How do I disable it from ever starting up on my pc unless I say so?

Okay, Max.
You can keep AVG in passive mode then.
Passive Mode disables all active protection, such as Core Shields and Enhanced Firewall, so you can use more than one antivirus program at a time without interfering with the performance of your PC or the reliability of antivirus detections. In Passive Mode, your AVG Antivirus product still receives all virus definitions and program updates that allow you to manually scan for issues on your PC, but AVG can not actively protect you.

Open the AVG user interface and go to Menu ▸ Settings.
Ensure the General tile is selected in the left panel, and click Troubleshooting.
Tick the box next to Enable Passive Mode.
Click Restart Now in the dialog that appears to reboot your PC and initiate Passive Mode.

NOTE: It is generally not recommended to use more than one security solution on a single system. They will compete for resources, which may result in slowdowns, crashes or in no protection at all.

Sorry, I didn't mean temporarily. I meant permanently, until I run the program I want it permanently disabled at all times.

Max, thanks for clarifying.
It is not recommended to disable active antivirus protection on your PC.
Please uninstall and reinstall AVG AntiVirus once to resolve the issue.

Hi Martin,

We understand your concern.

We did recommend the previous customer to put the program under passive mode since he wished to disable the AVG.

We could see that you disappointed with CPU usage of the program. Please share us the screenshot of the CPU in your computer from a separate post.

You can post the screenshot in your topic. Click on "Answer" & then click on the "Image" [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

Keep us posted.
