not worried about the virus definitions the program is the problem. V17 will not work and not enough configuration settings to try and tweak it. V16 works good, but AVG keeps trying to upgrade. the PROGRAM virus definitions are not the problem. It links like a major design change in V17 to make less tecnincal and more simple. for non tech folks. Very disappointed have a few. computers that are messed up hare
I also have AVG ultimate and did an update to the new AVG that they sent the e mail about. Biggest mistake ever. Update hung at 97%. I then had connections to my network/internet that, though were shown, wouldn't work. (no IP address). I tried removing AVG with AVG-remover.exe several times but the program was still there. I can't try an install again as it requires an internet connection. phoned avg support and all they wanted was $199 for support. I now have a laptop that is usless.

We certainly understand your concern. You can change the update settings in AVG 2017 version also.
Please click on Menu option - Settings- select Update.
Under Update options, you can change the settings under Virus definition to prevent auto update.

Is there a way to prevent AVG Internet security module (part of AVG Ultimate package) from auto updating? I resolved some issues by reverting back from Version 17 to version 16 and would like to prevent an auto update again until V17 is more stable and fixed to work in my system, I can see setting to control the virus definitions but not the actual application
