How to temporarily disable protection with AVG Antivirus Free?

I recently uninstalled my paid subscription due to so many conflicts with other software, especially my VPN. Way too much troubleshooting involved.

I reinstalled the AVG free antivirus last night. Where is the Advanced Settings menu located? I need to temporarily disable protection to test my VPN and can't find an Options or Advanced Settings menu to disable any of the core components.

The "Disabling AVG Components" article in the knowledge base does not work for the free version.

That's not helping. It's also what the other antivirus vendor told me, so I uninstalled their product. I'm not about to go without antivirus protection while using a VPN as much as I do.

So there is no way to use a VPN unless it's your product? No way that I can set an exception in AVG to prevent being blocked from using the product of my choice?

Hello Cj,
We’re happy to help you sort this out. However, we’d like to know more about what’s happening with your AVG.
May I know if the issue is resolved when AVG protection is disabled? If yes, then I request you to disable AVG components (Open AVG free Antivirus > Menu > Settings > components) one by one and check which component is blocking your VPN application.
You also said that, "I keep getting an alert that blocks my connection. Being told by AVG to just turn off my antivirus protection is not a prudent solution", could you share a screenshot of this alert with "see detail" page to assist you further?
You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hello Cj,
We’d love to help. Right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle the On/Off slider to disable AVG protection. Keep us informed about the status.
