This is an old post, but I am writing this to help anyone else who is looking for the same answer without having to re-install AVG!

I finally found where the AVG detection list is stored! If you have some Vault items in your AVG Virus Vault, but you cannot remove them because of an error relating to: "Vault Item Cannot Be Found" Then here's a solution:

Note: Before clearing the virus vault list, make sure you go into the virus vault and permanently delete all vault items that don't give an error. Otherwise you will no longer be able to delete/restore their actual file without finding them in the $VAULT folders of the appropriate drives.

Step 1: Disable AVG Temporarily
Step 2: Disable AVG Self Protection
Step 3: Launch Services.msc
Step 4: Launch Task Manager
Step 5: In Services, Find AVG Watchdog, And Disable The Service. (You will not be able to stop it, just disable and click apply)
Step 6: In Task Manager, Under Processes, Choose "End Process Tree" For -> "avgwdsvca.exe"
Step 7: Advance to the following folder: "%ProgramData%\Avg\AV\DB\" -> Delete The "detection.db" file.
Step 8: Re-Enable The AVG Watchdog Service + Start The Service
Step 9: Re-Enable The AVG Self Protection
Step 10: Restart Computer

The AVG Virus Vault Will Now Be Empty!

Hi there!
I've had Spyware Terminator running on my pc for almost a year, without any problems.
All of a sudden, AVG detected a whole list of infections, some of which I couldn't add
to the exceptions, so I had to remove ST completely. Quite a shame, but ok.
However, there is still a registry key in my quarantaine that I cannot get rid of.
When I try to remove it, nothing happens, when I try to restore it, the item cannot
be found.
Can someone help me out here? I want my quarantaine empty, so I can easily see
if AVG has found any new threats after a scan.

For help on your issue please try delete content of C:\ProgramData\AVG2015\IDS\quarantine</i> folder.

Alan, I've checked my registry, and the key is not there. It was removed by my
Revo Uninstaller, so AVG can't find it any longer. I just want to 'reset' my quarantaine!

Thanks for your quick response. I've emptied the quarantine folder as you suggested,
but alas, the two 'ghost items' are still in my virus vault, even after rebooting.
Should I perhaps remove AVG from my pc and then re-install it?

Alan, I cannot find this Virus Vault. AVG is set up in dutch on my pc. Could you possibly
tell me how to find it?

Vincent, Have you checked out what's presently in the Virus Vault where AVG quarantines items.

Vincent, What is the registry key quarantined that you are referring to? Is it definitely showing up in the AVG Virus Vault?.

Emptying the $VAULT didn't do the trick either, so I have completely
re-installed AVG. I have the 2015 version now, and it looks neat (I had the 2013
version before).
Thanks a lot for trying to help me, but luckily the problem is gone now; the virus
vault is clean!

You can try that or also delete c:$AVG$VAULT\vault.db.
