I ran the disc, and restored the MBR. I tried to use the scan, but it gives about 6 options on whatto scan that I really didn't understand, and in those there was a bunch of differnet options and I didn't know what I was supppose to check or not check, so I tried my best with that, since you didn't say which one I'm suppose to scan ( or if I'm suppose to go through all the multiple variations of it) or even what options I'm suppose to check or not. Tried to reinstall 2014, but it still failed with the same errors - it keeps failing whenever it's on Installing features and updates, and still gives me this:
Error code: 0xC0070643
Error message: General internal error.
Additional message: MSI Engine: Failed to install the product.
@AVGMSI_Error27046
Driver installation failed (0xC007001C)
Context: AVG product installation, MSI action failed.
Is there another way besides the remote support? The time frame they give turns out to be around midnight to 8am in US time, which is, frankly, an unrealistic time to try and squeeze in fixing my computer between sleeping and work.
Heather, In order to analyze it please provide AVG with diagnostic output using this tool (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe).

I am having the same problem. AVG kept prompting me to reboot every day, so I uninstalled, and now it won't reinstall. General internal error, driver installation failed, MSI action failed. I ran the diagnostic tool and submitted the output.
Hi Heather,
Unfortunetelly those files are not complete there must be some issue durring uploading, please try it again or share it with us using 3rd party server(dropbox, google doc, etc).
Thanks
Hi David,
Your issue is most likely caused by missing/disabled "Base Filtering Engine" try refer to this (http://www.registryrecycler.com/blog/2013/09/repair-and-restore-base-filtering-engine-bfe/) to fix it.
Thanks
Hi Heather,
Please use AVG Rescue CD (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?q=rescue%20cd&urlname=How-to-use-AVG-Rescue-CD&retURL=search) and restore your MBR as described here (http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=147645) (refer to Offline mode using AVG Rescue CD). Then, scan the system using AVG Rescue CD and remove detected threats.
Thanks
Originally, avg 2014 kept prompting me to restart to complete an update, but the update would never go through. I read that it's normally fixed just by uninstalling and reinstalling avg, but it keeps saying that driver installation failed when I try to reinstall avg 2014. I've already tried the uninstall avg tool (it only worked in safe mode - it kept failing, too), following the troubleshooting reinstall instructions, and getting rid of the conflicting programs that the older avg forum talked about, but none of that worked.
Note: I think I'm supposed to add on an msinfo and an avg installation log, but I can't figure out how to add those on.

Hi Heather,
Please try use this tool (http://www.avg.com/eu-en/remove-win32-bootkit.tpl-stdfull) and if it doesn't help provide us another Gmer result(to see if infection is gone).
Thanks

David, Re AVG Community Support expert assistance with your diagnostic output… They will attend to your posting @ their earliest convenience but please bear in mind it's now the weekend (
The errors were the same. I uploaded the GMER results:

Hi Heather,
Still same result not even dropbox files can be accessed. Did you shared them and are they still in your Drpobox?
Thanks
I send in a diagnostic output back on July 31st, but I haven't heard anything. I even just sent in a second one. How long, exactly, does it take for someone to get back to one of those?
I tried the bootkit tool, but it didn't seem to actually do anything, so I saved a log from that, too.
