I have whitelisted and added exceptions, but still get warnings

Picture of message

I have an engineering program: RISA-3D.  It worked fine until the latest AVG update.  Now it says 'We've just protected your file" every time I open and close the program.

I have added the exception for the program directory: C:\Program Files\RISA*
and for the directory in My Documents referred to by the program: c:\users\derekw540\documents\risa*
I also included the program using Blocked&Allowed apps, Allow App.

It still flags the program because it is writing to the \risa* subdirectory of the inaccessible c:\users\derekw540\documents folder.  Do I have to add an exception to the entire documents folder for all programs in order to not get error messages from this program?

Please accept our sincere apologies, Derek.

Appreciate your efforts in sharing us the screenshot, Derek.
Upon checking it, we see that a file protected by an AVG component is being attempted to be accessed through the risa3dw.exe app.
To identify the component, click on 'See details' in the pop up & let us know.

Please accept our apologies, Derek.

In this case, we request you to submit the detected file for False-positive analysis using this link.
Once you've submitted the false-positive report, our concerned team will analyze the file & if found harmless, they'll whitelist it right away & inform you the same via email.
Thank you for understanding. Your patience is appreciated.

Note that I have AVG Ultimate (Multi-Device) with an expiration of 12/16/21.

Settings, Full Protection doesn't list Ransomware Protection.  It lists Enhanced Firewall, Password Protection, Remote Access Shield, Webcam Protection, Sensitive Data Shield, Fake Website Shield.

Basic Protection does show Ransomware Protection.  That is set on Smart Mode, which says "Trusted apps can change or delete files in your protected folders…".  That is not how it actually functions.  When I click "View allowed / blocked apps", it moves me to General, Blocked & Allowed apps.  Under the list of allowed apps, RISA-3D is shown as one of those allowed apps.  It has Allowances for Ransomware Protection, Webcam Protection, Sensitive Data Shield and Password Protection.  On General, Exceptions, c:\users\DerekW540\Documents* is listed, so the folder shouldn't be protected; it says above "Choose specific files, folders or websites to exclude from all our shields and scans." So that isn't functioning either.  So, I can't whitelist the program or the directory without still getting warning messages.
