Just as I was about to uninstall I got the update with the bugfix. You really shouldn't waste people's time and patience giving them the runaround. Just thank them for the information and tell them you're working on correcting the problem.
Hello Vern,
Thank you for reaching out, and I apologize for the delay.
My name is Jovana, and I’m with AVG Senior Support.
I understand that AVG seems to be using too many resources on your Windows device. While it’s normal for the icarus.exe file to consume some resources, it shouldn’t be affecting your device this much.
I recommend trying to repair the app first. If that doesn’t help, a complete reinstallation might be necessary. Here’s how to do that:
Repair: How to repair AVG Antivirus | AVG (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=repair-avg-antivirus&q=repair&supportType=home)
Uninstall: How to uninstall AVG Internet Security | AVG (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=uninstall-avg-internet-security&q=uninstall+avg+internet+security&supportType=home)
Install: How to install AVG Internet Security | AVG (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=install-avg-internet-security&q=uninstall+avg+internet+security&supportType=home)
If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

My free AVG is downloading hundreds of megabytes per day, day after day. My Windows 10 Resource Monitor shows it as icarus.exe. How do I stop it?

This website is screwing things up for me. For previous screenshot I wrote that my dsl is capped at 1 mb/sec and icarus.exe uses it all. I'll try the second one again.
