At start-up, and after the updating process is complete, the screen shows "Identity component is not active."  The "Fix Now" button does not fix the problem (tried twice) - and the problem persists even after I restart the computer!  How do I fix this ASAP?

Hello Jane,
We are sorry to know that the issue persists.
In this case, we suggest you to completely remove and reinstall AVG to fix this issue. Use this link to download and run the AVG remover tool
http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
Note: Once the removal of AVG is complete, go to C Drive and delete the AVG remover folder. After which you can install AVG. Use this link to install AVG Internet Security http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Internet_Security_742.exe
Thank you.

Thanks for your quick response.  I followed your instructions and it did not fix the problem!  There is a quick flash on the screen after I press the "Fix Now" button that looks like it's fixed and then instanteously reverts to the "Identity component is not active" message.  What to do now?
