Meldrum,
I appreciate your efforts so far but regret to hear that the issue persist. To uninstall the AVG Link Scanner please follow the below steps:
Download the install package of Link Scanner for Mac by clicking here: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/Tomasek/Mac/avg_lsm_stf_all_2012_1815.dmg . The installer can be blocked by Gate Keeper. In such case deactivate Gate Keeper according to the steps provided in this article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491 .
Run the installer.
Click on Uninstall.
OS X may warn user to not open the installer. Please click Open.
Mac will ask you to provide the password for the User Account that you are currently logged in (note: the Account needs to have Admin permissions in order to uninstall the Link Scanner ).
After the uninstall process is allowed by Admin, the OS X will rise a request to close an Application, click OK.
I had to reinstall my OS 10.8.5 on my iMac. I then went and checked my AVG and found that the Linksystem was not working. Subsequently I uninstalled AVG as instructed by your web site.
I then went to reinstall AVG and have constantly received the below message:
AVG LinkScanner security software is already installed on your machine. AVG AntiVirus cannot be installed as it may not be compatible with your AVG LinkScanner security software.
The uninstall menu is no longer available so I went to finder, applications and searched for all files that had reference to Linksystem. I sent each of these files to the trash.
I then rebooted my iMac and am still unable to install AVG and keep getting a repeat of the same message as noted above.
Please advise a solution.
Thank you
