I understand your concern. Please disable AVG protection temporarily from your computer and check if that fix the issue.
To disable AVG temporarily, please right click on the AVG icon present at the bottom right corner of your desktop(System Tray) and you can see a scroll bar to "Disable Protection". Please click on the same to disable AVG Protection and after which check if you are able to access websites.
firefox and chrome won't access websites. internet explorer OK. something to do with AVG firewall?

Are you sure that you have disable AVG Internet Security temporarily?
