Internet Explorer Trojan

Hi team
I am having to run AVG every hour to remove a Trojan that keeps appearing from my AVG scan as:
"";"Trojan horse PSW.Generic12.CCYK, c:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (9516)";"Secured" (The number 9516 changes)

I dont use IE but Chrome and so concerned about the regularity I went to Control Panel/Window updates and deleted Internet explorer.exe from the system. I am aware that it is a Windows program so when restarting my computer it was a lower IE. Started at IE 11 now at EI 9. But this Trojan has been occurring at least daily and thankfully AVG catches it but what else can I do to ensure whilst AVG is not running a scan that changes arent being made to my system. Obviously AVG is not picking it up till I scan which is why I am running the program hourly. Please be mindful I am not a computer geek but capable with step by step instructions.
With thanks
Sharon
