Is avgmfapx.exe a virus? I keep getting error warnings

Thanks for the info Alan. The error message I keep getting is "avgmfapx.exe encountered a problem and needed to close" then a date and time that was a few days earlier.
This is what I've tried so far:
I cleared 10GB of c**p off my computer. Did a defrag. Compressed files. Turned on DEP. Uploaded anti-Malware from a microsoft site but it didn't find any virus. Did numerous re-starts between these procedures. And since I scanned for Malware the error messages haven't come back. Although during all this I did get a "WMI encountered a problem and needed to close" as well. 
Should I uninstal then reinstal AVG 2014?
