Keepass Auto type not working with AVG Securre browser

Is there any update on this?

David Chilvers

I tried unistalling and re-installing AVG Secure Browser and no difference. Just to clarify when I type the Keepass access key (CTRL+ALT+A) the Keepass prompt window comes up with the correct prompt window for the web page. But when clicking on the selection nothing is type into the web page.

I had been using AVG Secure Browser for my online banking, hence the use of Keepass Autotype.

Hi David,

We are sorry to hear this.

We request you to uninstall the AVG Secure Browser and reinstall it again.

Once you reinstalled the browser, please check for the issue again.

Keep us posted.

Keepass Auto type used to work with AVG Secure Browser; nothing appears in the web page boxes. After an upgrade to the Browser it stopped working. Auto type still work with Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

I cannot find a setting that would make it work.

Any suggestions welcome

Hello David. Thank you for your patience. My name is Shawn, and I am writing to you on behalf of AVG's Senior Support team. I referenced your issue with a colleague, who too uses Keepass (version 2.43), and was able to provide information that I trust will be helpful to you:

There is big advantage of this alternative solution - you do not need to name your logins by window title names.

Recommendation number 2: As Keepass "help" advises, this method of Auto-Type is not very secure. There is an option to obfuscate the auto-type in Keepass but they say it may be also stolen by specific spyware. I would recommend Avast Passwords, or other Password manager, which is integrated in the browser. Unfortunately, Avast Passwords cannot import from Keepass.

I trust this information is useful and helpful. Let me know if there is anything more I may help you with.

Best Regards, Shawn

I am not sure that the screenshot below of the website plus the Keepass prompt tells you anything. I have tried a different website which also works in Chrome, Firefox and Opera, but not AVG. You can see the Keepas window brought up by (CTRL+ALT+A). If I click on Toolstation in that window, Keepass should Autotype into the email and password boxes. It does in Chrome, Firefox and Opera. In the AVG Browser nothing happens.

I can cut and paste into the boxes in AVG Browser

My OS is Windows 10 Home (64  Bit) Version  1903 (OS 18362.476)

Note 1 I tried to submit this response in the AVG Browser and I could not insert the image. It could in Chrome.

Note 2. I am an experienced IT person and so can answer technical questions and am unlikely to being making  basic errors.

AVG Browser + Keepass

Thank you for clarifying us with the screenshots, David.
Let me check with our senior team and let you know the status.
We appreciate your patience.

Hi David,

Once you reinstalled the browser, please check for the issue again.

Keep us posted.

We're sorry to know that, David. Would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of the prompt that you receive upon using the access key?

  1. If I add one more keepass login for "Login" keyword, it opens the popup that you sent. I clicked one of the logins and it filled the credentials to toolstation.

You must make sure to clicks into the first login field on the website before pressing CTRL+ALT+A. Otherwise it does not work.

    A recommended alternative solution:

    - CTRL+ALT+K opens Keepass window.
    - Choose a login that you want and press CTRL+V
    - It will auto-type the login to the web form
