Laptop still running slow. Can't download products

Dear Sirs. I renewed my AVG subscription back in November 2016. My laptop is running slow. I purchased an AVG tune up disk and a rescue disk and back up disk (lifetime). I have run the AVG Tune up disk with the maintenance program. I have installed the AVG Driver updater also, so everything should be running up to speed, but it seems like the programs aren't downloading fully. When I run the disks the screen says "downloading installation components" but this can run all day without completion. It says "time left 0 seconds" but it doesn't get any further. I was told by a previous AVG operator that you may be able to help me remotely. Is this possible? After running the maintenance program, it says the computer is 43% tuned up and won't get any further. I don't know whether my laptop has the internet security I have paid for. Please can you help? Thank you in anticipation.
