Large data transfers days after installation

Hi, three days after I had first installed AVG Free and about one hour after I received my daily "Your Virus Definitions Have Been Updated" popup,I noticed a fair amount of traffic on my network and on checking I see that 416 MB has been downloaded and 203 MB has been uploaded to AVG. What data is this, how can I check what my system has sent to AVG without even an ask ?
