LONG time to start

Michael, Have a look @ this article (http://avgclick.me/prepareforAVGinstall). Before installing AVG did you totally remove Norton by running the removal tool (https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us)?.

Thank you for the answer. No, unfortunately I did not run the Norton removal tool before installing AVG, I used only the add/remove program in the Programs and Features section of Windows Control Panel. But I will keep this in mind for the future. I have since my  post had the opportunity to slowly try two more steps, one each day. The first and so far most advantageous has been to set the .exe files for the accounting and the point of sale programs as " allow through windows firewall. "

Thanks again. Michael

Our Point Of Sale and Book keeping programs take VERY LONG ( 8 minutes ) after booting on their newly purchased Win8 and Win7 pc's before we can attempt to log in, and even then, the first attempted logins return unsuccessful results due to random "Errors."

These take the form of "component missing…" "Database not Registered…" "Database Component Unavailable…" Unable to Access File…" and various others.

I suspect this is due to files being interrogated by the anti-virus program, in this case AVG. But I must admit that we had exactly the same scenario with our Norton Antivirus before installing AVG Free.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me identify and solve the cause of our ongoing frustration at the start of day.
