Hi David.
Thank you for reporting it here and we're glad to look into this.
With AVG installed, please make sure “Automatically hide and show the Dock” option is not selected in System preferences. Go to System Preferences -> Dock -> unselect “Automatically hide and show the Dock” the option.
If you are using 2 monitors, disconnect the 2nd monitor and reboot your PC once.
Good news: it all works fine now! There was a major OS update the other day to 10.15.1 and following this the Dock stays put. This rather agrees with your point that it was probably a Mac setting of some sort that has now abated following the update. Thanks for your time.
Since upgrading to macOS Catalina the Dock has disappeared. Uninstalling AVG (free version) resolves the problem. I also tried reinstalling the OS and once AVG is installed the Dock vanishes. As this software is free I cannot really complain but it is also not encouraging me to upgrade to eh paid for version. It seems to be something to do with the startup process, I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Though I tried what you suggest it does not assist. The problem is that the Dock does not appear at startup. If I go into System Preferences/Dock and click on any of the settings (eg turn magnification on and then off) the Dock appears and stays for the session but disappears on restart or first boot. I have also found that another app that should run in the background fails to start at boot (Dr. Cleaner, which is from the app store). Now if I boot and there is no Dock and then uninstall AVG (without touching the Dock settings) and reboot the Dock will then apear. I am no technical expert but I can only assume that AVG interferes with the start up sequence and prevents certain things from loading that should. You can manually fire them up but that is not the point as they are part of the 'system'. Having said that this is also a Catalina issue in that AVG worked fine in Mojave. Thanks again.
Thank you updating the status, David.
Glad to know that you have found the reason behind this issue and fixed it.
Feel free to contact us if you need assistance with AVG. We are available round the clock.
Have a nice day!

Our pleasure, David. Our expertise are limited to AVG. It seems that the issue might be caused due to a MAC setting. As we're uncertain about it, we'd suggest you to try restarting the MAC without uninstalling AVG after the Dock disappears & let us know the outcome.
