I guess I found the culprit. AVG does not scan for viruses hidden in (old) .PST files, at least not with the (rather default) setting I use, also not when scanning for specific files. Hence viruses hidden in mail attachments never opened remain undetected. On the other hand archivarius3000 indexes – and hence opens mail attachments, upon which AVG catches the virus stowed away.
Deep scan on by PC and connected network drives revealed no infection - yet when indexing the network drives with Archivarisu 3000 both, Symantec and AVR consistently flag W32.Magistr.39921 and W32.Mytob (Symantc) respectively Win32/Magistr.B and I-worm.Mytob.FS (AVG)
Is this a false positive - or an especially well hidden virus.
(in either case, the virus removal tools from Symantec and MS did not identify a treat, although the virus alert pops up consistently when I run a full indexing)
