Malware possibly detected on my secure VPN?

Hi Dinesh,

Yea I have updated the virus definitions about 10x and have it set to automatic updates so it updates like every 5 mins, but it does not prompt me to restart my computer. Even my internet security is updated, but I'm still seeing the malware in the quarantine folder. I'm afraid that if I delete it I can't use my vpn for good, or if I extract/restore it, another problem might occur. I will try doing a full deep scan with the internet security and running Malwarebytes just to be safe. Would you recommend me extracting or restoring it?

We're sorry to hear that you're still unable to open AVG Secure VPN.

Since our concerned false positive team have already confirmed that this was a false detection, we request you to restore the detected file from the AVG Quarantine folder & check if you can access AVG Secure VPN.
Please refer to this article for detailed instructions to restore a file from AVG Quarantine folder.
Keep us updated.

If I were to delete it, would the malware be put back onto my computer and would I ever be able to use VPN again?

Hello AVG,

So recently my AVG internet security has detected 2 viruses on my computer. One was infected with IDP malware that infected my game when I tried to play it, so had to uninstall the game and reinstall. I don’t remember the exact name of the malware as I forgot to take a screenshot and pressed “restore and add exception.” However I did get another notice from the antivirus saying my Secure VPN has been infected with the malware below in screenshot. I cannot even open VPN now because my antivirus sent this to quarantine. Is this really a malware or false detection? I noticed after I scanned for malware and other viruses using the SPYHUNTER5 app, i started having more problems with viruses on my computer. I did cancel that subscription though and now doing a full deep scan using the avg scanner. What should I do for this problem? I’m paying yearly for the vpn subscription and don’t want to waste money if I cannot use it.

P.S. I tried uploading a screenshot of the malware but for some reason it’s asking me for my website and I don’t have a website for my pic. It’s just in my album

Thank you for writing us back, Christy.

  • Please open the AVG user interface and click the Refresh icon next to Virus definition in the bottom-right corner of the main application screen.
  • Wait while AVG checks for virus definition updates.

We understand your concern, Christy.

Upon checking the email our false positive analysis team have sent you, we can see that they've assured you that this was a false detection and there are no traces of malware in AVG Secure VPN.
Hence, we'd recommend that you restore the file from AVG Quarantine folder & add it to exceptions.
If the issue still persists after that, please let us know.

Yes I restored it and added exceptions and now my vpn is back working again! However the malware is still in the internet security app in the exceptions added category for future reference. Thank you AVG for all the help!
