I am getting a MSE Windows Virus Warning page listing contact emergency virus support now listing a 800 # and the system has found 2 virus and a list of some trojan names. Then below and at the bottom says do not try to remove the virus mannually, contact with toll-free no, along with repeating do not put in any personal information into your computer because it can be stolen by this virus. Then it lists a different number to call and I have another smaller pop up box message from webpage which list Windows has detected virus attack on your computer network please visit microsoft.com or call toll free #. Now I know this is a SCAM to get you to freak out and call the number. According to Microsoft Windows they are aware of this scam and give you steps on how to remove the malware/spyware/spamware etc. One of the steps it states to do is run a Quickscan by Windows defender. My windows defender is turned off and I am assuming because I have the full purchase of AVG. I am running a windows 8 system. I have run a full computer scan, but I am wondering if there are certian other places on my computer that this malware/spyware could be located? Can you please help? What all does it scan? Does AVG know about this spyware/malware scam? My BIGGEST questions is that how was this malware etc. able to get on my computer when I have all of this security that is supposed to protect my computer of these things, or give me a pop up warning about this? I am very concerned. Thank-you.
Not sure what you article you are asking me to refer to with this link. I see many regarding installation which is not my issue. Can you please clarify if you are stating that Windows defender is turned off because it would interfere with my AVG virus protection? Also when AVG does an entire computer scan what is it all scanning?
Hello Andrea,
What we suggest is better to uninstall the Windows defender before installing the AVG program. It is not recommended to have two antivirus program on the same PC. At times they will conflict each other and both can't give effective protection.
