Yeah - AVG - this sucks. I am happily paying for both services which worked togther perfectly for years. During that time - not a single problem. I liked having double protection, and found it to be worth a few extra bucks. Now you are making me choose…what makes you think I won't just dump AVG? I like your product just fine, but if you start the Norton and McAffee crap (thou shalt have no other virus protection! We are perfect!) I'm outa here. I'm already getting a little tired of the endless ads for other products. Or I'll just go back to having the free version.
Please provide a work aorund immediately to this problem - one you just created. Hopefully one that requires a minimum of effort for me. Don't make me choose.
WORKAROUND: This worked for me on my win 8.1 desktop running Malwarebytes Premium 3.0.6.1469 and AVG 17.7.3032. In Malwarebytes, turn off Start Malwarebytes at Windows Startup. Also turn off Enable Self-Protection Module early start. I also delayed real-time protection when Malwarebytes starts by 30 seonds (not sure this is important). After a restart, AVG finally came up without being in passive mode. Then I manually started Malwarebytes, and turned on all necessary protections. Pain in the butt, but at least the 2 programs are running in the way they did before the AVG update.
I just posted a question about this today (10/11/17) and am running the free version of malwarbytes which you say should NOT present a problem…Well, exact same problem. Had to uninstall malwarbytes to get AVG out of passive mode.
Hello Robert,
I appreciate your efforts. The free version of Malwarebytes doesn't have the resident protection hence there is no issue running together with AVG. However, the paid version of Malwarebytes has a resident protection which is causing AVG to run in passive mode.
Steve, AVG will probably conflict with the MalwareBytes [paid for] version but not with their free version (http://avgclick.me/ConflictingApps) [Scroll Down… Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware].

As of this morning, AVG Premium is telling me I have to uninstall Malwarebytes because the two are incompatible. AVG will run only in passive mode. I've used these two products together for years. What gives? I'm not a happy customer.

I'm having the same problem. On a laptop running win10, AVG finally started to run correctly after multiple restarts. On a desktop running win 8.1, the problem continues. On both machines I was instructed to update AVG, which I did, today, Oct 4, to version 17.7.3032. The idea that AVG will not run at the same time as Malwarebytes is ridiculous, as the 2 have been running together for years, except for a brief problem earlier this year (after an update, how about that) that eventually was fixed by AVG. This really sucks.
