Hi, I have had this same issue for a couple of weeks or so as well, and saw Terence's answer a few days ago and followed his suggestion & got IE back again.
If this is not the recommended solution, please could someone advise what I should do to get IE working again? I have updated AVG but nothing different, cheers
I found the same problem with IE 11. To solve this go to AVG options advanced settings exceptions add acception "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" or Browse to where iexplore.exe is stored. Only tick identity protection.
It appears that either IE 11 is sinister or AVG have their algorithm wrong - or rather it is failing for IE.

Just Installed AVG Ultra (Protection Pro and Performance Pro) on a Windows 7 laptop. When AVG protection is enabled, Microsoft Internet Explorer fails to launch. The task manager shows it loading into memory, but then it immediately disappears from the task manager list. - - no error messages, no AVG notifications, not even a partial windows.
When I temporarily disable AVG protection, IE 11 loads just fine.
Google Chrome works just fine (with or without AVG Protection running) so I know the problem is related to IE 11 and AVG on a Windows 7 machine somehow - - the machine is also current with regard to MS upgrades and patches.
Haven't been able to determine what's causing the issue - - anyone help?
Please follow advice from AVG as I am not an expert. The sol above is just a temporary work around. I am not sure what is knocked out by ticking identity protection. In the mean time I have suspended use of IE.
Hello Terence,
Adding to the exceptions is not recommended solution, yes it is a issue with AVG program.
We are aware of this and we need to analyze the log files, so we request you to get our additional support regarding this.

Hello G Barnes,
As posted in the previous reply trying the instructions provided by Terence is not recommended.
We request you to update your AVG program once and then check whether the issue persists.
Many thanks for posting this I have spent hours installing and reinstalling AVG to work out what was causing the issue. This solution has worked. Just one question by ticking identity protection only does AVG still scan Internet Explorer when browsing

Hello Richard,
We regret the inconvenience caused. We request you to make sure if you are using a latest version(2016) of your AVG program. We also suggest you to 'repair' your AVG program (http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY) once to check if the issue persists. If the issue persists, please let us know the 'build' version of AVG program. Thank you.
