Multiple AVG-Secure-Search processes

Hello Stephen,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Could you please check whether you have AVG web tune up add-in installed in default web browser?
If so, please delete the add-in to remove secure search from your browser.
Thank you.

My wife's PC runs a WinXP Pro32b VM in a Win7 64b machine.  She uses Antivirus Free and is up to date.  She has never knowingly accepted any browser add-ons and neither of her browsers (Firefox & IE) show any AVG-related ones. The programs registered are 'AVG' and 'AVG Protection'.  She only wishes for AV protection of incoming email for her Outlook Express client. MSCONFIG shows nothing to do with searching in startup.

Nevertheless, she has 6 'AVG-Secure-Search' processes running, processes which can be killed, but which retart on reboot. No registry keys contain the string 'Secure-Search'.

AVG, how have these 6 processes started, and how can they be permanently banished?
