Yes Avinash, I did disable the online shield component and it made NO change.
I actually disabled the whole Ultimate AVG and the problem remained, When I disabled Ultimate completely (before I tried reformatting and setting up windows again) the problem remained and it was only by un-installing that the problem fixed itself.
I then reformatted the hard drive and set up windows fresh with all security updates so that I could prove that the problem was NOT a windows problem and that the issue is in the current AVG client.
I can pin the problem on a "windows update" that AVG forces to be installed ending in the numbers 70158 (I can't remember the first numbers and hard drive is new now) I noticed that after I installed AVG Ultimate it forced that update file into my windows update log and yet my computer had not connected to windows update website (updates disabled) so I could track the issue was related to the forced install - i note it mentioned in description something about Kernel mode driver etc if that helps find the bug
We have paid Ultimate renewal. on most machines AVG is working ok, but this one I am using to type message on AVG Ultimate stops all web browsing or slows it so that pages take 20 minutes to load the text only and all images are blank.
I tried reporting it but tech support told me it was a windows problem.
I reformatted hd, reinstalled windows and did all upgrades, checked web browsing, all good! Added AVG Ultimate back on to machine, all web browsing stalled and stopped, uninstalled AVG and I am back to good internet browser again.
Pc is Windows Vista Service pack 2 and NO I am not upgrading the OS, it works fine on this unit.
Not Happy this time AVG after all these years
FIx it - as now I have no antivirus or security on this box
I apologize for the inconvenience. I would request you to disable the Online shield component (AVG>Menu>Settings>Component) and check if you are able to access the websites.
If the issue fixes after disabling the Online Shield, please uninstall and reinstall that component alone.

Kent, Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Did you try to disable Online shield component alone in AVG as suggested by Bhuvaneswari Vairavan? Please re install AVG Ultimate and try the web browsing after disabling Online shield component.
