Hello everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me out with a frustrating issue. I run a small website that mainly shares restaurant information, menu pages, and offers for different dining places. Recently, I started receiving reports from visitors that AVG is blocking my site completely and showing a warning page that it’s “unsafe” or a “threat.” This has made some users nervous, and a few have already reached out asking if my site has been hacked.
Naturally, the first thing I did was check for malware or suspicious files. I ran scans on my hosting server, checked my WordPress installation, plugins, and themes, and everything came back clean. I also scanned the site with third-party security tools like Sucuri and VirusTotal, and none of them reported any problems. From my end, the site looks completely fine and secure. I have a valid SSL certificate, HTTPS is enforced across the board, and there’s no sign of injected scripts or spam links.
What’s puzzling is that the block seems inconsistent. Some users on AVG report being blocked immediately, while others with the same antivirus say they can access the site normally. When I tested it myself on a machine with AVG Internet Security installed, I got the red warning screen for certain subpages, but the homepage loaded fine. For example, the “menu” pages that feature images and PDF downloads seem more likely to trigger the block, while plain text blog posts are unaffected.
This makes me wonder if AVG’s Web Shield or Online Threat Detection is mistakenly flagging my content delivery or external scripts. I do load some scripts from a CDN and also use embedded content, like PDF menus, which could look suspicious to the scanner. However, these are legitimate files, and they’ve been on the site for a long time without any issues until now. Could this be related to a recent AVG update that’s being more aggressive about classifications?
I’ve already tried to submit a false positive report through the AVG site, but I haven’t heard back yet. In the meantime, I’m worried about losing trust from visitors, since many people will just leave as soon as they see a red warning screen. My analytics also show a sudden drop in traffic, which makes me think more and more people are being blocked by AVG when trying to visit.
Has anyone here dealt with AVG blocking their legitimate website before? If so, how did you resolve it—was it through direct support, whitelist requests, or changes on your site itself? Any advice would be hugely appreciated, especially if there’s a faster way to get AVG to review and clear my domain. Right now, it feels like I’m stuck waiting with no clear feedback, and I’d love to get this resolved quickly so users can safely visit my site again.
