Keep us posted.

I just installed AVG Ultimate on a new Windows 10 Laptop.

AVG Internet Security says "Sensitive Data Shield is turned off".  Clicking the "Turn On" button does NOTHING.

I thought it might be due to not being "Activated".  When I use the 3x6 key, it seems to work and I can select the products to either install or use.  It all looks good except the "Sensitive Data Shield is turned off" still never gets turned on.

I then tried using the exact same account email and password as I used to get here to try activation using that method.  I get a message that says "Sorry, something went wrong...(0xFFEF)"  and still nothing changes.

AVG Tuneup seems to be working fine.

I have not worked with AVG Password Protection yet and I do NOT use AVG Secure VPN (screws up my backup procedures)

For the first reply, I will try this, likely tomorrow.  Right now I am exhausted.

For the second reply:
I have two or three or four computers on the same local private network that I access portions of their disks by mapping the area that I am interested in backing up to a particular network drive.  I use that network drive as the source of the files to backup (and restore).  The last time I tried Secure VPN (about a year ago), it killed ALL communications between network drives and any other computer on the network.

That's the gist of the problem.

If you can provide any advice, I'll give it another try soon.

First Part:
1:  Unable to disable AVG protection temporarily - the is no AVG icon to right click on to do the disable (on this machine, there is on others).
2: It appears to me that neither AVG Internet Security or AVG Tuneup start when this machine is restarted.
3: I had to (gladly) uninstall MacAfee stuff, but that didn't help either.
4: I totally uninstalled AVG from within AVG Internet Security and rebooted then did a reinstall of AVG Ultimate.  That didn't help either.
5: Right now, the "Sensitive Data Shield" warning is gone but, when I click on "Menu", the message that comes up at the top says to Sign in to my AVG Account and that DOES NOT WORK.  I get the "Sorry" message (that I can not, unfortunately, copy and past for your edification) but the code is still 0xFFEF.
That is where I currently am with AVG Internet Security. I will set other settings under "Menu" snd then do a repair from there to see what transpires.
AVG TuneUp has a similar problem with activation.  In this case, when I enter the same email and password as for everything with AVG, I get a different error code with the equivalent "Sorry" message (that I can not copy and paste for your elucidation).  The code on AVG TuneUp is 0x2000BFFB.

Time for me to take a break.
