I have the same problem, apparently there is no solution from AVG sie

I will certainly help you with adding a search engine.

Please follow the below steps to add your preferred search engine.

1.Open AVG Secure Browser.
2.Click ⋮ Menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of the screen and select Settings.
3.Scroll to the Search engine section.
4.Click the drop-down menu next to Search engine used in the address bar and select your preferred search engine.

How do I add https://startpage.com to the search engines in AVG Secure Browser in Windows 10?

Clifford, let's try below steps to make startpage as a default search engine on your AVG Secure browser:
- Open AVG secure browser and navigate to startpage.com. You will be able to see an option 'Add to chrome', click on the same. 
- In the pop-up, check 'I understand the risks' and click 'Install anyway'. 
You will be shown a pop-up confirming you have completed the process. You can new perform startpage.com searches right from the URL bar.

You'll be able to add %s (search engine) by : Opening Secure Browser - Menu - Settings - Search engine section - Manage search engines - Click on Add beside other search engines & enter the required fields.

Sarath,
https://startpage.com does not appear in the list of search engines and I don't know where to put the %s to do it myself.
