New version 17.3.3011 using 100% CPU

We regret to hear about the inconvenience caused. The new update for AVG Anti-Virus Free has included AVG Zen. AVG Zen is an user interface and we can mange and access all your AVG installed devices from Zen. We suggest you to disable AVG temporarily and check whether CPU shows 100%, follow the below instructions :
If you have installed AVG Anti-Virus free 2017 version, please follow the below instructions :
Open AVG Zen -> Open Internet Security -> Click on "Menu" in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Disable Computer & Web & Email components (Click on Disable until restart)

Running Win 7.
AVG has updated itself automatically to version 17.3.3011 build 17.3.3443.0.
Now using 100% CPU.
Any suggestions before I switch to a different anti-virus program?

Have you tried to uninstall AVG using AVG remover tool?
Please download and run AVG remover tool through this link http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe .
We request you to re-install AVG Antivirus free version and check the CPU usage.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, before I got your answer, I had tried to uninstall AVG using the AVG Removal Tool. This failed and now I am unable to stop AVG from running or uninstall AVG at all.  (I could send you the screen shots and log files if you are interested.) (No other anti-virus program was running at the time.) But now I guess my only hope is to boot from a rescue cd / drive and try to stop it manually by renaming the key files???
