Do you mean AVG TuneUp dashboard is not opening when you double click the desktop icon?
Was there any error message?

AVG Tuneup no longer runs since loading the update it looks as though it is loading and uses CPU and memory but no disc

Okay. Do you see the program name as AVG TuneUp or AVG PC TuneUp?
Please follow the steps as mentioned in this article and check whether you are able to access AVG TuneUp.

When I click the desktop icon nothing happens.

Mike, it seems that you are still using the old version of AVG TuneUp.
Could you let us know whether you see the program name as "AVG PC TuneUp" or just "AVG TuneUp"?

No I eventually cured it. Occasionally an Internet Security update stops the link to AVG Tune up working. I reinstall AVG Tune up and it then works
