I use Thunderbird email client and for many years have not been able to scan email. Just recently I started receiving alerts about emails with virus attachments .. I rec'd a lot of them over about 3 days. Also just recently my email client is crashing and the support suggestion is to stop the AV client from scanning emails .. but there don't seem to be any control option in the AVG Antivirus free menu. i want to stop mail scanning. I found a guide that says click on Options but I dont have Options on my menu.

I beleive I have resolved the issue. I had a large mail folder (about 9500 messages) which up until recently had been working OK .. I decided to remove its profile. No more crashing ! So I suppose that folder maybe hit a limit? It was the folder the scanner was reporting malware from the other day ? Strange .. the folder size has not changed much over the past month and the mail was working fine .. so something changed say 5 days ago??
As for Options to control the software ... my version AVG AntiVirus Free version 17.3.3443.0

You can disable individual components of AVG by following the below instructions.
Open AVG Zen -> Click on Anti-Virus Free -> Click on "Menu" -> Settings -> components.
You can find disable option at the bottom of each components.

I dont have an application called AVG Zen. In my program list I have an option AVG, when I click on this I have an option AVG … click on this a window open titled AVG and I select Antivirus Free. This opens another window titled AVG AntiVirus Free. At the top/middle of the window is a statement "You have basic Protection". Beneath that is a smaller box titled Basic protection which contains 2 icons one titled Computer the other Web & email. Both have green ticks on them. Top right there are 3 nav buttons, Menu, Minimise and Close. … None of these buttons work for me. To close the window I have to right click on the task bar item and select Close window.
