Update from original poster - I have also now done a system restore to a point before installing AVG. I still have the problem. I have performed several steps found in the "Reset Internet Connectivity" tips link that was given in another thread: (2) ISP is working on different computer on same subnet; (3) I reset the proxy settings in Internet Explorer; (4) Checked the "hosts" file and it was already as shown in the link to reset it; (5) The interface is set to use DNS and it is getting an IP address.
I have also downloaded the AVG uninstaller and run it on the affected computer with no change in symptom. I should also note that after logging into Windows, I get an error message "flsysio.exe has stopped working". Googling flsysio.exe seems to indicate it is malware, correct?
Hi Don did this fix the problem? I have just downloaded AVG2015 and lost internet access after my intial run and fix.
Hi Don,
Please try scan you PC using updated AVG Rescue CD (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?q=rescue cd&urlname=How-to-use-AVG-Rescue-CD).
Thanks
open admin cmd prompt
issue : netsh winsock reset
fixes it.
I installed AVG antivirus on a Windows 7 laptop. It cleaned some malware off, but after re-boot I had no internet connection. I first tried disabling everything in AVG with no success. Then I uninstalled AVG and have the same problem. Malwarebytes free version was installed previously, now I have also uninstalled that. Still no internet using wireless or wired connection, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. Also tried disabling Windows firewall, but that didn't help either. What is preventing access? I can log onto another computer on my local network, so the hardware is fine.

Please refer to my previous post to make sure there are no remains of infection.
Than try restore internet connectivity according to this article.
Thanks
