Firstly, please share us a screenshot of the AVG pop-up window which is supposed to show the scanning status but is not.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Secondly, repair your AVG Internet Security as mentioned in this article, restart your computer and check if the issue persists.
Thirdly, let us know whether this issue only occurs when you perform a particular scan (file scan) or with all the scans available in AVG Internet Security.

When scanning a file or contents of a file folder there is no status indicator. A window pops up were the status usually shows but nothing is there.
