Payment declined by AVG, but credit card says payment went thru

I renewed my subscription with AVG for 2 years, using my credit card.  I received a confirmation from AVG and everything looked good.  Two days later I get a notice from AVG that the payment was declined.  I called credit card & was told 2 attempts made on the card by AVG, first one declined but second one went thru okay.  If the second one is on the card, why do I keep getting notices to renew?  Thank you for any help.
