PC died after update

Insert the rescue disc (I hope that you've created one before) and start CMD.
When it is tarted, type DISKPART.
After propmpted, type LIST VOLUME. You will see how much volumes (and their corresponding letters) you have.
It can be the case that the AVG splitted the system volume C into two partitions (C and D) where bootmgr remains in C and other part of windows in D.
If it is the case, using DISKPART commands, rename C into L and after that rename D into C. Restart the comp with the Rescue disc in it. Hopefully, the RDisc will fix the problem.

something similiar happened to me Ideapad P580 windows 8.1

A request to update was like forever in my PC when i finnaly decided…

-first it didn't let me get into windows saying my profile couldn't be found.
-Then an error on a blue screen appeared…

i couldn't do anything without a repair/recovery usb… which obviously as a common user of a PC… didn't make with anticipation… two days passed. i got my hand on one and then i've tried

-the rebuildbcd routine - no luck
-renaming bcd to bcd old - no luck
-i've tried to go into safe mode but it says something about not having enough space
-i'm not sure of what i did but it finally presented the windows logon screen but obviously… my user was nowhere to be found so… to activate admin via cmd
-try to repair my user via regedit - no luck… actually i can't find any of my files anywhere in C:<br>
not posible to run dr web cure it
not possible to run recuva
not possible to uninstall AVG

I really really don't want to lose my files… i might be willing to wipe it clean after recoverying my files but if i can avoid that would be great… SO DAN… did this work for you?

could you please share the steps… i'm no IT guy but i'm techie enough to be able to follow instructions…

I updated to the full version a couple of months ago. The moment I installed it it crashed my pc, PC refused to boot hanging on a AVG on the boot. In the end I created an avg rescue disk removed avg via the command software and pc booted, reloaded softtware crashed again, same process of removing AVG. I spoke to avg support via thier Msg, they took control of my pc for a couple hours got nowhere passed it up to technical support I have heard nothing, in the end requested refund and they rejected my request as it was too late, becuase they have messed me about for months. What a dreadful company they have turned into.

It did seem BIOS related, because that's where it was freezing. I couldn't even get to safe mode because the function keys didn't work, it wouldn't boot (or even check) the DVD drive, etc. But the failure first occurred during the power-down part of the reboot for the AVG update, not a BIOS or any other update. The good news is there was a happy ending. Since there was little else i could do, I toggled the power about a dozen times or so the next day. Finally, it magically got past the BIOS screen and booted to safe mode. I reinstalled windows using the Samsung utilities and it's been fine since.

Hi Richard,

I reescalated your request, our refund team should contact you soon.

Thanks

Hi Dan,

We are happy to see that your issue is resolved.

Thank you for posting back.

AVG prompted me for an update. I selected yes. When it downloaded, it said a reboot was needed to finish, again I selected Yes. Now my system is dead. Turning it on only gets as far as the BIOS splash screen. Selecting either F2 for setup or F4 for recovery only results in the bar changing to "Please Wait…"

Chat help was useless, and telephone support is an endless loop of "Please stay on the line while we connect you to a consultant." every 15 seconds for the last 15 minutes.

I would have guessed it was a dead HDD, but that wouldn't keep me from accessing the function keys. So instead I'm thinking that AVG bricked my computer with this update. Any help or advise is appreciated.

Hi Dan,

I doubt your issue could be connected to AVG, it seems like unsuccessful update of Bios.
Not sure what PC you have, but there should be possibility to reset BIOS(by switch or just removing battery) if this doesn't help you might be lucky and have backup Bios on board(try search in manual).

Thanks
